What is "would" and "will" and how to use it in a sentence?
WILL
In Assertive sentences, it is used in the Second and Third persons to indicate simple futurity without any
reference to the wish of the agent.
He will will win the first prize.
Your will be able to do it in no time.
Anyone will tell you the right path.
In the First person, it denotes determination, promise, threat, wish or willingness.
I will do as I like. (determination)
I will help you. (promise)
I will expose her. (threat)
I will go home. (wish)
I will lend you my pen. (willingness)
In Interrogative sentences, it is NOT used in the First
person.
It denotes willingness, intention or wish of the person
spoken to in the Second person.
Will you go there ?
It denotes simple futurity in the Third person.
A form of request used with second person as "Will
you...".
WOULD
It is used to express a wish.
I would like to see that book.
It is used to indicate refusal (as would not).
She wouldn't answer my questions.
The wound wouldn't heal.
The engine wouldn't start.
To express determination.
He would have his own way.
Expresses past habit.
She would sit for hours in the balcony.
He would talk about our future all the time.
It may be used to express willingness in the past.
She said that she would help me.
In polite speech, while making a request.
Would you please lend me your book ?
Would you mind waiting here until I return ?
Would you mind if I shut the window ?
To denote condition or uncertainty.
If he should hear about this, he would be shocked.
He wouldn't do it unless you were to order him to
do it.
Even if you were to try, yours wouldn't be able to
defeat him.
Had she met me, I would have told her everything.
I would go there if I were allowed.
